Muted audio from track 1 shows up while recording track 2
Recorded drums as our first track and attempted to record guitar on a 2nd. When you hit record you can see the audio profile from the first track while recording the second. Please help to figure out what the issue is.
Re: Muted audio from track 1 shows up while recording track
What's the problem with being able to "see" the waveform? Do you also "hear" the waveform? Or do you mean that you can see the waveform from the muted track appearing in the new track? We can't see your set-up so you will need to describe in complete detail what you are using, what you are doing and what is happening.

You see the waveform from the first track in the new track. And it also distorts the first track by make a "swirling" sound effect on track one overall. We have used Audacity before and this is the first time we have seen this happen.

How can you tell there is a "swirling sound effect" on track one? You said that track 1 is mutedcopie719 wrote:And it also distorts the first track by make a "swirling" sound effect on track one overall.

Confusing I know, sorry, but even with track 1 muted you can still hear track 1. doesn't make sense to us either.

You will need to describe your set-up in fine detail.
If an audio track in Audacity is muted, it does not play.

Re: Muted audio from track 1 shows up while recording track
Well we have an older Yamaha soundboard that we connect to the computer via RCA chord. Then we plug headphones in to the audio out so we can hear track 1 while recording additional tracks. Pretty simple, or so we thought. It seemed to work before so we are trying to figure out what changed.
Re: Muted audio from track 1 shows up while recording track
It sounds like you have a signal routing problem with either the mixer or the wiring. Probably time to dig out the Yamaha manual.
You can mute a track in Audacity so that it does not play by clicking the track mute button: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/au ... .html#mute

Ok, thanks. Will attack it again and see what happens. Thanks!
Re: Muted audio from track 1 shows up while recording track
Looks like it has to do with my sound card. When you try to record a second track it copies the first track, even when you mute it. You can't hear it if it is muted, but it copies it. I tried another computer and it records the second track fine. Any ideas?
