Deleting hang-up "click" in batch mode

Post by aaelghat » Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:55 am

Hi, I have people call in on a toll-free line and record stories, etc. There is occasionally a hang-up "click" at the end of the sound file that I'd like to remove in some sort of batch process. I know how to bring up each recording and delete the click, but there are many recordings I'd like to treat. Is there some way I can use Audacity to identify a loud click at the end of an MP3 file and delete it?

Thanks.

I'm going to throw pieces at you. There is a "chain" command in Audacity Version 1.3.x....

...and you might be able to use one of the phonograph "pop and click" removal tools to automatically get rid of that effect.

By the way, that click is caused by someone on a conventional landline phone which switches the Central Office 48 VDC on and off to establish and then tear down the call. It's legacy technology that allows you to call in an emergency when the lights are out. Most electronic system don't make noises like that, but some newer ones have other problems.

I think that is the way you will need to do it. There is no "standard" way of doing that in a batch, but if you find some clever trick to do it, please share.
