Can you plug headphones into your computer and listen to anything? YouTube, Windows Media Music, keyboard sounds, anything? It's possible but highly unlikely that your computer doesn't have a soundcard. That can happen in a home-built computer with a custom motherboard.

The Inspiron 1525 has a SigmaTel sound system on the motherboard.
Go to DELL's support and make sure you have the latest drivers for it.
