Try working out to what input of the computer the tape deck is connected, then choosing that input in Device Toolbar - see here to read about Device Toolbar http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/de ... olbar.html .

If other software can still record from the tape deck, try choosing Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input or Primary Sound Capture Driver.

If other software can no longer record from it, go to the Windows Control Panel for sound and see if the input you are connecting to is enabled. If it is enabled, unmute it and turn the volume up.
