I've been testing, and Audacity closes if I edit any silence (i.e cassette single matches (as close to the CD) Audacity closes.

Thanks for testing. I don't know how to repeat the problem, though. Is this a silence between tracks on a cassette you recorded into Audacity? And then you did you select the silence by dragging in the track, or had you labelled the silence and then you selected the label? Exactly what edit did you make when it crashed?RunrigCorvusCoraxFan wrote:I've been testing, and Audacity closes if I edit any silence (i.e cassette single matches (as close to the CD) Audacity closes.
If you have "Audio Cache (Play and/or record using RAM)" checked in the Directories Preferences, uncheck it and click OK. That may stop the crashes.

The hissing. which you get on cassettes; used noise removal using my way. When I go to edit the silences (what was the hissing), to match the CD counterpart, when I drag, it either freezes or crashes. It also crashes when I zoom in, to see where the cassette plays (as close to the CD version), it crashes. Nope not ticked. Thanks for testing. I don't know how to repeat the problem, though. Are you sure you are using Audacity 2.0.2? Please look at Help > About Audacity to check.RunrigCorvusCoraxFan wrote:The hissing. which you get on cassettes; used noise removal using my way. Can you say what you mean by "using noise removal your way"? Have you used Effect > Noise Removal before the drag in the track that causes the crash? If so, what settings are in Noise Removal? Or were you intending to use some other effect on the region you were trying to select?
Are you sure the problem is not just in this one project? If so we may be interested to have a look at the project, but projects are very large with the data included. Can you do File > Save Project on this piece of work, if you have not already done so, in case we need to see it?
If you then quit and restart Audacity, does the problem happen again when you follow the same steps? Suppose you just record two cassette tracks, then select between the tracks or zoom, does it crash then? Or do you have to do something else before it will crash?
Thanks,
Gale

When I quit, and restart, it works. I have a stereo, with a USB slot, and got a stick and transfer cassettes to the stick. I open Audacity, and go to zoom, so once I done noise removal, when I go to edit the silences (if it's buzzing/humming) I edit so it matches (as closely to CD). When I zoom all the way to see where song starts on CD, I would do the same for cassette. When I trim the silences at the beginning, it crashes.Gale Andrews wrote:Are you sure the problem is not just in this one project? Re: Audacity 2.0.2 Release Candidates posted
It sounds to me as if this is just one project that's bad, right? Please do File > Save Project on the work that crashes and attach the .aup file. To do that, use "Upload attachment" underneath where you post messages. The .aup probably won't tell us anything, but it is only a small file to attach. .
If you can find the autosave file immediately after you crash, before reopening Audacity, that would be good too. The autosave file is in the "AutoSave" folder in the Audacity folder for application data. This page shows how to find that application data folder:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/pr ... tml#stored .
So in the bad project, you
1 use Noise Removal to grab the noise profile from the start of the track
2 select a silence between cassette tracks
3 apply Noise Removal
4 repeat for all the other silences
5 click the |<< button to skip to start
6 zoom in and select the starting noise
7 "trim" then crash.
How are you zooming in, with the magnifier button? Exactly what command or button do you use to trim, the Cut button, or the Del key on your keyboard?
