importing instrumentals

importing instrumentals
how the hell do i import instrumentals to audacity, ive been searching up alot for help but no help at all, i got a inspiron laptop windows 7, i go to file and then import i press audio but then it tells me "adacity did not recognize the type of file" then it says " if not uncompressed, try using import raw" i tried that it loaded to adacity but when i try to play it, it wouldnt play.. btw im a newbie to the program i tried to read instruction but the complexity gets me comfused. please help, its getting me fustrated
