getting started

hey there people just down loaded audacity and im trying to record my dj set.
ive got the stereo track brought up and everytime i press record a mono track brings itself up underneath!
Ive tried recording in mono then splitting it up into stereo but it isnt the real deal.
What am i doing wrong???

When you press record Audacity creates a new track - that's normal.
The problem you are having is that it is creating a mono, not a stereo track.
Click on the "Edit" menu and select "Preferences" - in the "Audio I/O" tab select "Number of channels: 2 (stereo)"
