Please state which version of Windows you are using,
and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Help menu > About Audacity".
Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported. If you still have those versions, please upgrade at https://www.audacityteam.org/download/.

It means that Audacity cannot find a recording input (device) to record from.TinPan wrote:I get the message "no device found". What device does the massage mean?
This is not uncommon on Windows Vista/ Win 7 because Windows often disables/hides the recording inputs. In fact it's so common that we listed it in the "Frequently Asked Questions: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... ng#Vista_7
