HIgh Pitched Whine when Recording

Post by nzassman » Sat Sep 20, 2008 9:32 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and this is my first general post.

My ultimate goal is to produce On Hold messages for my company that are mixed with royalty free music loops, to tell people about my company and products while they are on hold.

Equipment: Marshall Condenser Microphone, Alesis USB Mixer, XP PC w/AMD Dual Core, Dual Hard Drives (redundant), Yamaha Monitor Speakers.

Problem: When we record or playback on the system the equipment is connected to, and also to a different system (Asus notebook, new model), there is a noticeable high pitch whine/hum. We thought this was actually being recorded, but if we save the .wav file and play back the recording on another computer, we don't hear it.

It's annoying, so we would love to figure out what's causing it.

We've tried connecting a USB Marshall microphone directly to the USB port (not using the Alesis USB Mixer) but the results are the same.

I can't believe that the problem we are having is unique, so hopefully someone else has had to deal with this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
