compressor
dont understand the settings or known why i would need compressor, i like different levels to show emotion at different parts. what is it used for?

it's used to reduce the difference between loud and soft. Have you looked in the Manual?

Re: compressor
Using a compressor , sparingly, can make your recordings "pop" with a little more "life" than what they would normally have.
If you over-compress, you can mash the life ( dynamics ) out of your recording, so use it sparingly. 2: 1 ratio is usually a good place to begin.
Make sure your track ( or tracks) are all set at the volume that you want FIRST, THEN apply compression where wanted.
