Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Microphone

Post by jimhayes » Sat Mar 03, 2012 4:40 pm

I have a Dell Studio Laptop computer that I have downloaded Audacity 1.3 Beta on. I am not able to record with a mike that I bought from Radio Shack #33-3013 (Radio Shack #) and avaliable on the internet. When I press the record button on Audacity, I get the following error message with or without the Radio Shack microphone connected.

Error, while opening a sound devise, please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

I am a complete novice at this and perhaps in over my head. However, I want to use Audacity to record a talk that I am going to make in a couple weeks. Perhaps I should try to locate a microphone that is more compatable with Audacity. Help. Thanks Jim

See here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp
You need to ensure that the microphone is recognised by Windows and enabled.
Only then should you start Audacity.
The microphone should then appear as a recording input option in the Device Toolbar.
