I was looking at music software on EBAY and saw someone selling Audacity for $3.95 and they had copy and pasted all the info as a seller's tool.
This is the only way I knew to notify someone. Somebody is making money off this outstanding free service that way all appreciate so much and that is wrong.

Re: MODS: EBAY GUY IS SELLING AUDACITY
This is one of those things that really annoys me too. The best thing to do is to tell all your friends about this wonderful free program. The more people know about this free, open source program, the less people will be sucked in by that kind of scam.

Re: MODS: EBAY GUY IS SELLING AUDACITY
It chaps my a$$ Steve, because this is a great program where guys have put a lot of their own time into and keep making it better. I always come back to Audacity when recording and I have other expensive programs.
I was hoping by posting this someone would contact Ebay and have it removed.

Re: MODS: EBAY GUY IS SELLING AUDACITY
Oh, the Audacity of it, eh? Why don't you contact ebay yourself instead of hoping someone will? Heh.
Re: MODS: EBAY GUY IS SELLING AUDACITY
Actually, I did dickhead, but I have no affiliations with Audacity so I thought someone here might like to know about it.
Keep being a douchebag, you've got the art of it down to a tee son.

Please try an play nicely chaps, we like to keep this forum a helpful and pleasant place for all Audacity users.
I think that MDOC was just pointing out that Audacity is a community effort, and all Audacity users are part of that community, so each of us can do a bit to support and promote it, whether by telling your friends about open source software, helping other users on the forum, or whatever (not everyone has to be a code wizard).
Thank you earthdice for bringing this to our attention, but the license terms of Audacity actually allow people to sell Audacity, providing they do so in accordance with the licensing terms. This may help clarify the issue: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... ityVendors
Unfortunately not all people that sell Audacity play by the rules, and that's what annoys me. Also, it is difficult to enforce the licensing terms unless someone with the necessary legal/financial clout decides to take up such a cause.
Where e-bay vendors of Audacity (or other open source applications) omit to mention that they are selling a free product, then I think it is appropriate that e-bay users should point out this fact by leaving "feedback".

Note that this is a little out of date as "TheOpenCD" is no longer in active development but is included in several other projects: http://www.theopencd.org/Advice for Users

I paid for a product and then found out it was Audacity. What should I do?
If you feel you were deceived, or did not get your money's worth, you can ask for a refund from the seller. Check the terms of the description. In the small print, many sellers of Audacity offer a money-back guarantee. If you are dissatisfied with the seller's response, you can contact the provider of the webspace (such as eBay or Yahoo!), or contact the provider of the payment service you used (such as Paypal or your credit card company).
Where can I buy Audacity if I want it on CD?
If you want a CD of Audacity for Windows, the Audacity developers recommend TheOpenCD. This collection also includes Mozilla, GIMP, and other free open source programs, plus added documentation and custom installers. It is produced by a group of volunteer contributors. You can buy copies from many different online vendors.
