Can someone please help me. Ok not sure what I am doing wrong. Running v1.3.14
Windows 7 Pro x64, 66GB SSD, 300GB SATA, 8GB RAM
What I'm trying to do is record some tunes from youtube. I load it up I have the clipping set, and I have the main prg installed on my ssd and the temp folder on my sata drive. Starts out fine. The graphs are moving and if I click stop I can back it up and play. BUT, if I let it sit and come back youtube list is still playing but the graph will no longer be moving but the two meters are still . It almost always stops at around 37:11. If I hit stop and back it up nothing plays. The temp folder has some dir's in it like F:audacity_tempproject14477e00..d00-d something. All the folders are empty. Once it does this, I cannot save or anything. I go to File | Save or SaveAs and the options are grayed out. The prog is not locked up, it seems to at some point stop recording and what it has recorded I cannot save. I also tried the same thing using shoutcast and the exact same thing happens.
What am I doing wrong? Is it a setting? Installation?
Thanks for any insight.
Chris

Re: Keeps stopping and cant save
If you personally stop it gracefully at 35:00 -- don't let it go to 37:11, do you get a good show?

Not sure never tried that.I will try. I know at five minutes I do. I was hoping I could record for a few hours at least provided my internet connection had no issues.
Re: Keeps stopping and cant save
OK I just tried this again and it worked. Sound ended right at 30 minutes and I was also able to save the project. I changed these settings so perhaps that was the issue?
Preferences | Projects- changed to Always copy all audio into project (from ask user)
Preferences | Directories- Unchecked Audio Cache (from checked and had at 16mb default)
Could the second one be what's been causing the issue? I have 8GB RAM. It was my understanding that it would write everything to RAM then offload that as needed to the location specified in the Directories option. My thinking was it would be faster to keep as much as possible in RAM than straight to disk. Should I have changed the 16mb to something higher? I don't have an old computer and I'm sure my SATA disk is capable of keeping up but I didn't want the dir on my SSD since its not as big.
One thing I noticed when I unchecked the Audio Cache option was that as it recorded the folder sizes grew in the audacity_temp directory which did not happen before. Also when it would stop around 37 minutes (even though it should have still been recording), I could exit the project but COULD NOT exit the program itself. It wasnt non responding as I could choose other menu options, but right clicking on it and choosing exit or exit from the File menu would not work. I could only close the entire app by killing it in Task Manager.

Yes, almost certainly.carito wrote:Could the second one be what's been causing the issue?
That feature is only really intended for users with very old hardware / slow hard drives. It gives no real advantage for other users and it is not able to access large amounts of RAM even if available on the machine (I think that may be a bug, but the type of machine that this option was provided for is unlikely to have a lot of RAM).

Thanks for the comments. I believe what I changed fixed it. I made several more over an hour long with no issues, other than the PC pumping out some heat.
thats a good thing though.
