Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

bbe sonic maximiser plug-in

Post by jglunt2112 » Tue Feb 21, 2012 5:38 pm

Does anybody know if Audacity 1.3 beta will support the bbe sonic maximiser plug-in? According to their website, it's available in a 32 bit format VST, but it also comes with some atrocious reviews about their registration process. I'd like to know if it will work with Audacity before I spend the money on it. And if not, does anyone know of a similar product that is Audacity compatible? BTW, I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and I do realize that Audacity doesn't support the 64 bit format. Thanks.

That would put me off straight away. If they can't make registering a product a painless experience then they clearly don't care about their users (imho).

You won't get full benefit of those products in Audacity (even if they work) as Audacity does not support real time processing.

You can probably achieve similar effects using a combination of the Compressor and Equalizer that are built into Audacity though they don't offer the ease of "twiddle the knob and hear what happens. If you need real time processing you would need to use a DAW program such as Reaper, Cubase, Sonar ....

If there's no free demo, you are taking a gamble. BBE doesn't list Audacity on their list of supported applications, and I assume they haven't tried it.

If it's real important to you, you can by it and if it doesn't work, buy one of the supported applications.

How do you rate the chances of that feature being introduced at a future date, Steve?

There are currently no plans to add real time processing to Audacity.

Sorry, y'all, but I didn't make it clear. I would be using the bbe sonic maximiser as a mastering tool after mixdown and not in real time as I record. The reviews I read are great except for the registration process, but it's true, they don't specifically list Audacity directly as a system it's compatible with. However, I have had success incorporating other VST plugins that work well. Any more thoughts? I appreciate your ideas & opinions.
