Recording digital Piano with Audacity. Problem

Hello!
I'm new in these forums. I hope some of you can help me with the problem I have when recording my piano with audacity.
I have a digital keyboard Casio PX-800 (don't know if it's significant) and I record pieces with my laptop using the freeware "Audacity". I use a simple cable that connects the output of the digital piano with microphone input of the laptop.
My problem is the following:
Firstly, I have to practically fully turn down the input volume (micro) with the software, and also the sound of the keyboard because otherwise the sound is overwhelming. I don't know why that happens.
In addition, when I play something, usually every piece has a "climax" part in which sounds are much higher, and then a final section in which they are not so. Well, when playing these final sections after the "climax" parts, the sound records very bad, as choppy. It gets very short and it sounds awfull. It seems that the laptop's sound card has been "overloaded" after recording the "climax" part. I tried to fix it with some Audacity's effects trying to "extend" the defective sound. But I got nothing.
Can you help me please?
