Newbie Needs Help
I am working on my first project. I have Audacity 3.1 Beta and Windows 7. I have already uploaded my project and did some editing. How do I access the edited version? How do I export it back to my digital recorder into a mp3 format? When I try to export I get a message to locate a specific file. Is there a way to permanently increase the volume on the right channel of a voice recording. It was recorded with a digital recorder. I am not sure if this is a stereo recording. I would really like some step by step instructions if possible.
Re: Newbie Needs Help
You've missed some numbers off. The Audacity version has three parts (e.g. 1.3.10)aparker73 wrote:I have Audacity 3.1
The last part of the number is important.

Alan, to answer briefly your other questions:aparker73 wrote:I am working on my first project. I have Audacity 3.1 Beta and Windows 7. I have already uploaded my project and did some editing. - To export as MP3, you need to add the LAME MP3 encoder to your computer. Please read this Frequently Asked Question:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... g-Ins#lame - To amplify the right channel of a stereo track, split the stereo track, double-click in the blue waveform of the right channel to select all of it, then Effect > Amplify .
If you install the current 1.3.14 Beta, a help Manual is built in at Help > Manual (in web browser).

Re: Newbie Needs Help
I have version 1.3.13 Beta. Is this version ok? Or do I need to download 1.3.14? If so where do I obtain the 1.3.14 beta version?

1.3.13 has a built-in Manual too, if you installed 1.3.13 rather than using the zip.aparker73 wrote:I have version 1.3.13 Beta. Is this version ok? Or do I need to download 1.3.14? If so where do I obtain the 1.3.14 beta version?
It is usually best to have the latest version as this will have the latest fixes. 1.3.14 is here:
http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/au ... 1.3.14.exe .
However there should be a new version 2.0.0 version very soon. So if you preferred you could wait for 2.0.0. It will be available on the download page http://audacityteam.org/download or you could sign up at http://audacityteam.org/#announce to receive an e-mail whenever we release new versions of Audacity.

Re: Newbie Needs Help
I am still having problems accessing an edited(shorter) version of my audio recording. When I go to file, recent files I get the original full version of my audio recording in the MP3 and .aup formats. Where would I found the shorter edited version? Would that be on my computer? Also my recording appears to be only one track (mono). There is no second blue wave line. Is it still possible to increase the volume of the right channel?

Re: Newbie Needs Help
If you exported this shorter edited version you will have to look in the folder you exported it to. If it helps, click File > Export and it will open at the last folder you exported to.aparker73 wrote:I am still having problems accessing an edited(shorter) version of my audio recording. By definition there is no right channel. As it is now, the mono track will play equally through left and right speakers or headphones.
If you had some reason to make an unbalanced stereo track, Edit > Duplicate, then using the Track Drop-Down Menu, make the upper track "Left Channel" and the lower track "Right Channel". You could then double-click in the blue waveform of the right channel to select all of it, then Effect > Amplify. Alternatively, don't bother with Amplify but instead move the -....+ slider on the lower track to right.

Re: Newbie Needs Help
I do not believe that I saved an edited version of my audio file. I opened my original file(long version) and made two cuts. I have already downloaded lame. I then connected my data recorder (MP3) to my computer. I clicked on import. It asked me if I wanted to save the file. A screen appeared asking edit metadata. I clicked ok. Meanwhile my data recorder was not recognizing audacity or my computer. It appeared to keep searching. Can you provide a step by step instruction of how to transfer an edited version to my data recorder? Also it appears that when I add a second channel there is no audio on that track. I guess I have a mono recording and can not increase the sound of one voice on the recording?
Re: Newbie Needs Help
I was finally able to export my edited audio file. However, even though I saved it to my data recorder, I did not find the file there. Instead the file appears in my I tunes player. How do I move the file from the I Tunes player to my data recorder?

Re: Newbie Needs Help
You need to use Edit > Duplicate as explained above.aparker73 wrote:It appears that when I add a second channel there is no audio on that track.
aparker73 wrote:I guess I have a mono recording and cannot increase the sound of one voice on the recording?
You can do it manually if the voices are always speaking one at a time. If that is the case then you could even duplicate the track, Make Stereo Track from the Track Drop-Down Menu then silence one of the voices in the duplicate and silence the other voice in the original to make a stereo effect.
Effect > Leveller or Effect > Compressor will reduce volume differences in the track even if you leave it at mono.
Needless to say we cannot see over your shoulder, but I would suggest you drag the file off your iTunes player to the computer thence from the computer to the data recorder.aparker73 wrote:I was finally able to export my edited audio file.
