Samson Q1U Mic not working - help

Post by Truestory » Sun Jan 22, 2012 1:09 am

For over a year I was using a Samson Q1U mic with audacity, no problem, and then it began to malfunction in the following way -- it recorded, but very faintly, had to shout into the mic to get anything. I thought it was the mic, and got another. Same problem. Did it on every computer. So, it's not the computer, it's not the mic, right? I thought perhaps some virus had infected my version of audacity, and--having just got a new computer--I thought I would start life afresh and download audacity again and plug in one of my two Samson Q1U mics. At first I got an error message from audacity when I plugged in the mic, unfortunatley I don't remember it, and I no longer get the message -- I just get the same performance from the mic I got before. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas? Thanks.

Which operating system do you have?

My guess is that you're on Windows 7 or Vista and that is windows' "enhancements" for voice conferencing software getting in action...

See if this helps: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... hancements
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

I had different operating systems for different computers, so this problem showed up on XP, Vista and, just now, Windows 7. I haven't look at your tip yet, but will, thanks.
