Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

"Open with" doesn't import the file

I have the same problem with opening a sound file by clicking: Open With.. nothing happens, and all the possible choices given do not list Audacity's new version, although it always worked with the previous version.
This is a bit of a nuisance, since now I have to drag each file into Audacity. Is this a fixable issue? I use Windows 7

It is not the same problem as on OS X at all.

Windows' Open with does not work if you have more than one executable with the same name.

Please read:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/File_ ... #Open_with .

If you uninstall 1.2.6 that might work, as an alternative to renaming the 1.3 Beta executable - I'm not sure if that has been tested.

I added a newer version of Audacity, 1.3.14 beta while still having an older version. I could open both. I tried the newer one with "open with", but it always brought me to the old version, and I did not have two choices of Audacity. So I removed the old version from my system, but I still can't get it to "open with" the new Audacity. It does not give me an Audacity choice anymore. Should I delete the newer version, and re-install it? Thanks! -Bob

Did you uninstall the old version of Audacity or only delete it? Uninstall (as I said) might fix the problem.

If not, the safest answer is to rename the 1.3.14 "audacity.exe" to "audacity 1.3.14. exe" or similar. Then browse to it and select it in the "Open with" dialogue.

Otherwise you will have to manually delete the Windows registry "Open with" key that is still set to the now missing older version. You should not mess with the registry unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Gale, Yes, thanks, I renamed the newer version, and "open with" is now working. I'd tried renaming the old one before my post here, and that didn't work. Looks like I'm good to go. Thanks so much for replying to my previous question. -Bopb
