OK, i have a Toshiba laptop that i have installed the latest beta onto, and am using a Hama RMZ-14 microphone attached via the jack plugs on the front of the lappy. When i click record on Audacity and blow into the front of the mic the graphs show a nice jerky pattern and everything replays fine. However when i try to record the constant door slamming and screaming from next doors kids which is louder than blowing into the mic, i get nothing at all apart from static. :s Anyone have any ideas on what noob mistake i am making?
Thnx

Re: Not Recording from Microphone problem
I don't think that's quite the case. I think you'll find that blowing into the microphone is so loud that it can get you a significant repair bill on some microphones. Stop doing that. If you need to test without your voice, scratch the microphone with your finger or tap on it.constant door slamming and screaming from next doors kids which is louder than blowing into the mic
And while you're tapping, make sure you're not accidentally recording your laptop built-in microphone. Start Audacity recording and scratch your new microphone and then around the laptop where you think the mic is hidden. It's good to know where that location is anyway.
Having established without doubt that you're listening to your new microphone, you probably should turn off Windows Conferencing Services. Windows comes out of the box set up for Auto Level Control and Auto Echo Cancellation, the better to do audio and video conferencing. In other words, if it's not your voice, Windows will try to suppress it.

Thnx, Seems it is an issue with my Laptop? i have installed Audacity onto my gaming rig switched to mic over as well and it works fine although maybe just a little quiet? Seeing as this machine is working, i will probably just use this instead? Thnx again for the help. And if wanted you can lock/delete this thread if need be?
