Error while opening sound device

[RLSharp]

I just installed Audacity 1.3.14-beta on my new Win 7 computer. When I try to record a streaming radio program, I receive the error: "Error while opening sound device. Please check the imput device settings and the project sample rate." I installed lame_enc.dll--correctly, I hope.

I do not know what to do next be sure that Lame.dll is correctly installed. I also do not know how to check the "imput device settings" or the "project sample rate." Any help or suggestions for a complete non-technical user?

How are you recording your streaming radio program? That's not at all easy to do on Win7.

So far I have not recorded any streaming radio. I can't get past the "Error while opening sound device."

Once I get past this error, do you have any suggestions for actually recording streaming radio. I can do it with my Vista Laptop.

You should follow the instructions provided in the other postings. This isn't the first time people have had troubles doing this task. The instructions can produce new sound devices and pathways on your machine and the errors may go away.

Configure Windows first, then launch Audacity.

Thanks to WC and Koz for the links to the solution to my problem. I spent the best part of the day following links suggest in the above links and finally got Audacity working properly. Computers sure can be frustrating and time comsuming--especially for the non-techie. I am still not sure where the solultion took effect on my computer but it works, that is all that matters.
