Importing WMA

Post by RonSH » Wed Dec 21, 2011 12:46 pm

I have a mobile phone given to me by my daughter. She would like the music from it and I have downloaded the music to my pc to make a cd. However the music is protected and will not play on my pc nor import into Audacity even though I have installed ffMPEG. Looking at some earlier posts it seems that 'protected' cannot be imported? Is this still the case/is there some way of converting WMA to MP3 so that I can create the cd.
Thanks Ron.

If it will not even play on the computer then there is nothing that Audacity can do with it.
Try searching Google for "migrate DRM license" or similar search terms.

Another way is to adapt the headphone connection to a recording device. Most DRM will not follow an analog pathway. You're probably not going to be doing this with your Windows Laptop, because you can't use the Mic-In. You can use one of these..

And plug into one of these USB Sound Cards.

That's a UCA202 and will adapt the phone to your laptop. If you're on a Mac, you don't need the UCA202.

It's possible the phone uses a special headphone and microphone connection, in which case the job is much harder.
