Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

No mono record with Sound Blaster 24bit live.

Post by polkat » Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:14 pm

Since I last posted about this, I have downloaded the most recent sound card drivers, and have gone to Audacity 1.2.14. Still can't record mono without crashing. Stereo record works fine. I tried using the WhoCrashed stuff, but found nothing there (if I used it right), and the card records mono fine in other programs.

So let me ask this: Is anyone here using this sound card who can record in mono, and if so, what drivers are you using for the card? Or, what economy priced soundcards are known to work well with Audacity?

Thanks!

I presume that you mean 1.3.14

Most PCI sound cards work well with Audacity, but if you want specific examples from what others are using it would be worth saying which version of Windows you are using. How well a card works with Audacity is usually more to do with the sound card drivers than the hardware itself, and drivers are different on Win 7/ Vista / XP and different for 32 bit / 64 bit systems.

I'm using Audacity 1.3.14 beta on a Windows XP Hone edition with SP3, and a Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit internal card. As well as what I mentioned above, I have downloaded and tried the newest drivers for this card. There arn't many as the card is now discontinued. I have uninstalled each driver before trying a new one.

It's a bit weird. In the past I could record mono tracks with this card in Audacity (Audacity 1.3.12 and earlier), but the driver at that time (the driver that came with the card) no longer allows mono.
Ahh well.

Just for the record, I found a driver on the Creative website that was made in 2007 for this card using Vista . I figured that if made for Vista it wouldn't work in XP, but I tried it anyway. Works great and I now have mono record again!

If anyone else is having this problem with this card and XP, go to this website.......

....and download the second driver in the list.

Thanks for all the help!
