Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

[SOLVED] Audacity require to be "installed" - cannot start

Post by Sprinterdriver » Tue Dec 13, 2011 11:29 pm

Hi all.

OS: WIndows XP sp2
Audacity version: Zip file named "audacity-win-unicode-1.3.15-alpha.zip"

This evening I made a roll-back on my XP computer to a previously state (earlier this summer). Probably not important, but I mentioned it anyway.

When trying to start Audacity.exe, I got the following message (of course I cannot translate it the same way Windows would would if I had an english XP):

Code: Select all

---------------------------
D:LydAudacityaudacity.exe
---------------------------
D:LydAudacityaudacity.exe
Dette programmet kunne ikke starte fordi programkonfigurasjonen er feil. Hvis du installerer programmet på nytt, kan dette løse problemet.
--------------------------
OK
---------------------------
[/size]

It says (trying to translate):
there is an error in the program configuration and therefore the program could not start.
If you install (not just unzip) the program over again, that might solve the problem.

So that means that if I download the zip-files, I still have to download the install-file and install Audacity first?

I'm not sure what the problem is, but the usual server seems to be slow at the moment. Try this one:
http://www.windinthew.users.sourceforge ... -alpha.zip

The Windows "Nightly Build" is always a zip, not an installer. You cannot run "audacity.exe" from inside the zip. I suggest you right-click over the zip in Explorer and choose the option to extract or decompress the files (or use 7-Zip or similar).

Gale

PS I also downloaded the copy from the usual address:
http://www.gaclrecords.org.uk/audacity- ... -alpha.zip

extracted the files and ran it on a Windows 7 "non-developer" machine without any problem.

Suddenly works after windows restart

Post by Sprinterdriver » Wed Dec 14, 2011 2:48 pm

You discovered a fault in my explanation.
The zip archive is of course unzipped to a folder and the folder structure is correct (unpacked by 7z for windows)
I've also unpacked the same file as you reffered to in the link above.

Now I have restarted Windows and I don't get that error message any more. Audacity seems to work just good :D

There is a slightly chance that lack of properly installed graphic card driver was causing this to happend.

But anyway, I don't like the feeling of not knowing why things doesn't work. Even IF things work, I feel that it can happend again and I will still not have a plausible solution to get it to work again. This is such a time, because lack of graphic card driver shouldn't be a reason that any program (that is not game, intense graphic, 3D) shouldn't work.

But, It works :o :D

Thanks

Although Audacity does not place a high load on the graphics card it does rely heavily on the graphics drivers functioning correctly. If your graphics card was not fully installed (until you rebooted) then I think that there is a high probability that it would be a major problem for Audacity.

I am getting the same error:

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"

I have reinstalled it and I get the same error message. I have rebooted the computer and I get the same error message.

I just downloaded the install file from Soundforge web site and installed it. Do I need to do anything? I am working on a windows XP platform.

Steve, that didn't work. I followed your link and get the same error.

Thanks!

At what point does the error occur? Is it when you try to run the installation or when you try to run Audacity after installation? Please give detailed step by step instructions and quote any error messages exactly.

Steve, in the installation Audacity offers to open the program after creating a desktop icon. It is the very last step where Audacity gives the message. Is that enough detail? The rest of installation seems to go smoothly.
