AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
Please could sks help me with this.
I'm trying to record from my soundcard and I'm sure I used to be able to do this, but can't now do it. I seem to have two options - record through the onboard speakers, or change the setting and record nothing at all, neither from card nor speakers.
I am using Win7
I have audacity 1.3.13 beta
My settings are MME, output realtek high definition, input 2 stereo input - my other options for recording are microphone and microsoft sound mapper
My device setting for recording is stereo mix - the only other option is microphone
I've tried removing DC cancellation. No change. I tried 'do nothing' about reducing sounds when comms activity is detected. Still no change.
I hope this helps and someone can assist!
Many thanks

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
This is not always possible on newer PCs and later versions of Windows (the manufactures hide it or disable it to deter piracy).
Have a look at this tutorial in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... e_computer

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
How disappointing. There must be a way of doing it somehow. I'll have to find something that works with the latest computer software. Shame. I really liked Audacity :(
Thanks for letting me know - I might have been looking for settings all day!

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
My wife's new W7 laptop could not be configured to record from the soundcard now matter how hard we tried with Audacity. So she bough the TotalRecorder package to make the recordings and does her other processing in Audacity.
TotalRecorder cost her around $18 - yo can get it from here: http://www.highcriteria.com/

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
I suddenly thought. I'm sure I have recorded on my soundcard on this computer using audacity before.
What do you suppose I can have done to disable this feature?

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
The tutorial I pointed you at earlier in this thread tells you all I know about the subject - but I am an XP user on both my PCs so my W7 skills are somewhat limited (restricted to experimenting on my wife's laptop).

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
"Upgrades?" Self-Recording is an unnatural act where you run the computer's recording and playback systems at the same time and connect them. The natural state of the computer is to record or play. Those are two straight-line pathways. Record your guitar performance and Play YouTube.
Self Recording is a dance between the computer, the operating system and the hardware drivers. If you damage or change any of them, the process can stop dead.
Total Recorder is one way, a Loopback Cable between the Line-Out and the Line-In on your Desktop computer is another (bad) way and FreeCorder is a third.
Vista was the first OS that made this more difficult that it should be and by the time you got to Win7, many computers just dropped out of the recording pool. Nobody in commerce wants you to do this. It makes the computer more unstable and it allows you to own music you didn't pay for.

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
I don't understand some of this - 'upgrades?' for one. Unless you mean that the usual windows upgrades have stuffed it up like they usually do. Haven't had any recently.
I don't get the bit about guitars and youtube. Sorry.
I did used to be able to record things from the laptop - like a few weeks ago. so maybe the upgrades thing is what you meant. I didn't upgrade anything to my knowledge though - haven't had the odious shield appear recently..
Hm.

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
Have you looked in the Windows Control Panel to see if Stereo Mix is available and enabled? (see here for details: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp )

Re: AUDACITY NOT RECORDING FROM SOUNDCARD
Guess I'm not understanding this either. Are you saying that the WHAT YOU HEAR recording option is not showing up in the tool bars, or is there but not working? That's how you record the soundcard's output. I still use XP, so is this a fault with 7 only?
