I need to use a master keyboard

Hi guys!!!

I need to use a master keyboard (Roland PC 180 A) on my PC, Window XP, Edirol UA 25 sound controller.

I know i need a sequencer for use a master keyboard, I have try with Sonar 7, I don't know.....when I press a key on the master keyboard the sound level increases on the midi track but I do not listen to anything, maybe it's a configuration problem.

Can someone help me?

It's right to use Sonar, or i have use some other sequencer?

Audacity is not a sequencer. Do you have a question about editing sound or music?

I wonna use audacity for recording and I need a sequencer for play my master keyboard, what's best sequencer for you?

The Master Keyboard generates "MIDI Events" as you press the keys. These "events" are not "sounds", they are simple instructions that can tell a synthesizer or sample player what notes to play. A "Sequencer" is able to record these event messages and play them back to any suitable synth or sampler that is connected.
Sonar is a full featured music production studio in software. It contains a MIDI sequencer, several sound modules (synthesizers and samplers) and can also record, edit and playback audio.

To create (audio) music with Sonar, you can connect your keyboard to the computer (depending on your hardware this may be with a MIDI cable or a USB cable) and set Sonar to pass the MIDI data to one of its sound modules.
Sonar can also record the MIDI events in its sampler so that the MIDI data can be edited and played back, either through the same sound module or through a different one.
Sonar is also able to record the sound from the sound module as an audio track.
Sonar can record and play multiple tracks of both audio and MIDI, but when you want to mix down the finished project as an audio track, all of the MIDI tracks need to be rendered" (recorded as audio) so that they will be part of the final audio mix.

If you are using Sonar then you may not need to use Audacity at all, however, if you prefer to do audio editing in Audacity than in Sonar, you can export audio tracks from Sonar (as WAV files) and edit them in Audacity. WAV files that are exported from audacity can also be imported into Sonar. Audacity can not do much with MIDI other than display it (Audacity cannot play MIDI files).

Thank you for your explain about Sonar, but you dont solve my problem, I have always the same problem, my master keybords does not sound.

I dont wonna use sonar, i just need a sequencer, i have in my computer differents software: Sonar, magix music maker, LMMS, acid xpress but my master keyboard does not sound with anyone, the problem is : i don t know how to configure my edirol UA 25 and the software (sonar or magix music maker or LMMS or acid xpress whatever it is.

I just need someone of you halp me to configure whatever sequencer useful for play my master keyboard with my computer and than record with audacity, that's it :)

But that's the point I'm trying to make. Audacity is not a sequencer it is an audio recorder, player and editor. Until you have "sound" (audio), Audacity is no use whatsoever.

"Master Keyboards" are not designed to make sound, they are designed to make MIDI event messages. You need some other software (not Audacity) to turn those MIDI event messages into sound and that is why this is not the right forum to help you with the problem. Audacity cannot make sounds from a Master Keyboard.

If you bought the keyboard new it will probably have come with some included software and an instruction manual - that would be the best place to start. If you still have problems, try asking on the forums for that software, or on the forum of the keyboard manufacturer.

If you bought the keyboard second hand and need help (after working through the manual), try asking either Roland, or Sonar. Sonar can make sounds from the MIDI events from your keyboard, but Audacity cannot.

We do get posts from people trying to record the music from their regular keyboard that has MIDI control. The temptation is to plug in the USB cable and sit back. That will only get the mechanical key control between the computer and the keyboard, not the music.

In the case of a regular keyboard, you also have to plug the audio output connections (I use my Yamaha Headphone-Out) to the Line-In of a computer or audio adapter. Two cables.
