Real-Time exporting

This might be impossible, but I was wondering if there was a way to have Audacity record and save to some container in real-time. In other words, have a wav file or something similar that would just grow without having to select export at the end of recording.

Audacity doesn't so anything in real time except record, play, and some timer jobs.

We use "vidcap" at work to do this in the video world. It's a screen capture and sound program that works in near real time. You press stop and the file or files are ready to use.

For audio only you can use Sox, though it is a command line program (no graphical interface).
Here's a free (graphical) audio recorder that I found using Google: http://www.opcode.co.uk/opd2d/default.asp
