Metadata when exporting files as MP3

Post by riy3rd » Thu Oct 20, 2011 9:39 pm

In the old version, 1.2.6a, when you were exporting the tracks from an album to mp3, a window would pop up that asked for artist, album, genre and other information. When you entered the information it applied it to all the tracks as they were being converted to mp3. Now it seems with 1.3 that you have to type in the information for each track individually. Is there a way to batch process this? Or is it something that will be fixed when version 3 comes out?

Open the Metadata Editor (File menu) before you Export and enter all of the information that is common to all tracks.

That will still make you confirm the common metadata for each file, although it is now prefilled. If you want the 1.2 behaviour, go to Audacity > Preferences: Import / Export and uncheck "Show Metadata Editor prior to export step". Click OK.

Sometime soon after 2.0 we will aim to make passthrough of metadata an option inside the Export Multiple and/or individual metadata windows so it can be found more easily; we'll add your vote meantime. Mind you, the default behaviour is useful if you have a compilation album.

Thanks for the information. I have about 300 albums to convert and that makes it a little easier.
