Combining two audio files into one ...

Hi everyone!

I need help on a small problem ...
Alright, I have a music audio file ( no problems here ) and a voice recorded file. Now, I want to combine my music with the voice but I don't know how to move the voice to other parts of the music. I have two tracks (the music is 3 minutes long while the voice recording is only 3 seconds long). The problem is that the tracks play together at the beginning but I want to, like, move the voice recording to, for example, near the end of the music. I don't know how to do this ...

Use the "time shift" tool to move the clips left or right. The time shift tool looks like a double headed arrow pointing left and right.

I recorded 3 hours of audio and when trying to open it up all I find is 8 folders filled with 6 second segments of hundereds of au. files. How can I combine them into one sound track?

If you're talking about the project file, simply open the project file (.aup).
Did you save it or Audacity crashed?
If you wanna save as MP3 etc., use Export.

When you save an Audacity project as <project_name> it creates a number of things

1. a top level master project file called <project_name>.aup
2. a folder at the same filing level called <project_name>_data
3. and within the folder a sub-folder structure with lots of little .au files - segments of the recording (mainly audio clips - but a couple of then are graphics files)

When you re-open a project with Audacity you should always open the <project_name>.aup top level file. This tells Audacity how to thread together all the little .au files. It is deliberately designed this way so that Audacity doesn't have to open and work with a single humungously large file, which would hamper performance. You should not be attempting to open or manipulate any individual .au files.

When you have finished editing your Audacity project you can Export it from Audacity as a WAV file or MP3 file depending what sound quality you wish to achieve. WAV files are around ten times larger than the equivalent MP3 files but are uncompressed and thus the audio quality is higher.

Thank you very much for the help however it is still not working. I located one aup. file and it opens all the little one. However the other one (aup.) doesn't open anything. There are three hours of data but the aup. file does bring up anything on the screen.
Is there any way I can recombine the files into a new project.

Also I don't understand the filing hierarchy. It looks like one project is put inside another.
