Clip List or Clip Window

Post by MikeGC » Sun Oct 09, 2011 3:59 pm

Most of my editing involves cutting up interviews ready for packaging into radio documentaries. When I'm in studio I use an edit programme called Quick Edit Pro from Jutel (expensive!!) . In that programme you can highlight a section of interview in the main edit window and save it immediately into a smaller "Clip Window" to the right hand side after naming the clip(cut). As you can imagine, in putting together a 20 minute documentary you build up a fair number of 20 or 30 second clips. The handy thing about this programme is that they're all displayed there in the Clip Window and can be dragged and dropped into your linking script track in the main edit window . Is there anything similar in Audacity? Or perhaps a reasonably quick and convenient alternative in Audacity.

Audacity does not have that feature, but it does have an alternative:
  • Create one or two empty tracks for your clips (must be mono or stereo to suit the clips).
  • Set the clip tracks to "Mute".
  • Select the section that you want as a "clip" and copy it to the clipboard (Ctrl+C).
  • Click on the empty track (your "clip" track) and paste the section (Ctrl+V).
  • (optional) While the clip is selected, press Ctrl+B to create a label and enter a name for the clip.
These audio clips can then be copied and pasted as required.

If you want copies (files) of the clips, you can use Export Multiple.
