Re: just wanted to let you know
Please see:
http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 52#p157275 .
I'm sorry if you thought I or others in the past were being disrespectful, but audio configuration can be complex and system-dependent (unless your issue was something simple like a bad cable). We don't have the ability to see over your shoulder. Clear information about your operating system and what you are trying to record helps us to help you and saves everyone's time. It's never a sin to give too many details.
Reading the links we provide carefully and indicating you have done so if you still need help is another thing that helps us to give you useful answers that don't tell you what you already know.
If you are getting a noise or a flat line when you record the microphone one of the obvious questions is if you still have Audacity set to record the mic input. We would love to have a dollar or a pound for every time that blindingly obvious suggestion has solved the problem. With hindsight I wish I had said "Please check that you are still recording from the microphone" input instead of "If you want to record the microphone you need to set the input device in Audacity Preferences to record from it", but since you had not stated you had checked that, there was I'm afraid, no alternative but to mention it.
If you post again in the near future we will all make a big effort to be on our best behaviour...

James, OK - but forgive us if we make Ken's address a bit less obvious so that bots don't pick it up and start spamming it.
Good luck,
Gale
