How are you supposed to use that effect to reduce hiss, sounds like rain, thru my mike (acoustic guitar)

See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Noise_Removal - but you should not have that noise in the first place. See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Reducing_noise .

Gale to explain my self futher, If i turn off the tv no noise what so ever, record a trak, i get a flat line of hiss. If i unplug the mike it gets louder. If i try noise removal it gets louder.

You need to spend words explaining the problem 1, 2, 3, 4...

What has a television got to do with it? Are you trying to accompany audio playing on a television?

Start by telling us what version of Windows you are on (for example, Vista). If you want to record the microphone you need to set the input device in Audacity Preferences to record from it.

1--- I have Beta 1.3 windows 7 new lap top Compaq, got it at Walmarts $400, Thought i was on the right , forum
2---Recording guitar and many traks of vocals
3---Tv has nothing to do with it, i was trying to make it clear there was no back ground noise
4---Like i said before, i can record a blank track, thru my mike and get hiss, unplug the mike, record another trak and the hiss gets louder.
5---When i say blank trak i mean noise free, just hit the record button
6---I am not a dumbass, and dont care to be treated as one. Or i may be for dealing with this.
7---No need to reply, which i'm sure you will, tell Steve to kiss my ass to, never be back, thanks for the help

Until you give us some information to go on, the answers reflect such information as we have, I'm afraid.

You've been on the Forum a while, but sometimes settings get changed for whatever reason, for example everything may have worked before by setting Audacity to record from MME/Microsoft Sound Mapper without you thinking about it, but if some other device becomes Windows default, it stops working.

Your post before last said:
1 record a trak, i get a flat line of hiss.
Your post after that said:
suttlemyre wrote: 2 i can record a blank track, thru my mike and get hiss, unplug the mike, record another trak and the hiss gets louder.

Statement 3 seems to contradict 1 and 2. Is Statement 3 a good or bad thing? If good, what are you recording there?

* Do you change the input device when you switch from recording guitar to vocals? When you record with the mike, what input of the computer do you plug it into?

* When you unplug the mike as you describe, what physical device are you recording from then? Every sound device has a noise level, so if you have no input all you will record is noise.

Lets start from scratch and record a guitar backing to start. You want to record it with your mic. How exactly is the mic attached to the computer and what exactly, left to right, are your current settings in Device Toolbar:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar ?
