Launching Audacity by opening a file doesn't import the file

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

I'm getting this behaviour with 1.3.14 Sept 25. If I double-click a .aup file, Audacity opens, I get the "Audacity Information" dialog, then an empty project window titled "Audacity". Similarly if I double-click a .aif file.

If I instead right-click on the .aup or .aif file, choose Open With > then choose Audacity 1.3.13.0 or 1.3.12.0 the file opens correctly, even with an initialized cfg and the "Welcome" dialog at the start.

As usual, OS X 10.5.8 PPC.

Thanks for testing Bill.

Despite that, Koz does not get this issue on "1.3.12 Intel MacBook Pro OS-X 10.5.8", although we know Todd has this issue on 1.3.12 on the susceptible "10.6.8 brand new 15" MacBook Pro" machine.

The behaviour you see in HEAD might be directly attributable to that "Audacity Information" dialog, which Todd won't be getting. Can you try "Open with to launch Audacity" using HEAD, and executing an .aup or .aiff to launch Audacity using 1.3.13?

I don't understand what you're asking me to try.

Basically the variations (as far as I can see) that you haven't tried to date.

1 Quit whatever version of Audacity you are using. Take an .aup, then use "Open with" to open the .aup in 1.3.14 Sep 25.
2 Repeat 1 but take an .aiff, then use "Open with" to open the .aiff in 1.3.14 Sep 25.
3 Quit 1.3.14 then arrange matters so that 1.3.13 is the default application for .aup then double-click the .aup.
4 Quit 1.3.13 then drag an .aiff to the 1.3.13 icon.

Thanks. This is just to see if the Audacity Information box will replicate the failure to open the file and the lack of the box will prevent replicability. If so, the information box may give us a way to replicate the problem even if not Todd's specific causality.

1) Information box appears, empty project opens.
2) Same.
3) No information box, project opens properly.
4) No information box, file is imported into project properly.

Thanks, Bill. Is that the same for others using the latest Mac Nightly - you can't launch Audacity by opening the file and also open the file?
