Wave Forms

Post by amdale » Fri Aug 22, 2008 2:36 am

I am a new user. I am recording vinyl records to Audacity and thence to CDs I am using Windows and a Citronic AC-1USB adapter. Everything was going well for 2 - 3 recordings but then the wave form started playing up (I suppose) The normal wave form seems to change at will to a fullscreen shaded blue colour, and then at will just turns back and forth with the normal wave form. Please, how do I overcome this? Thanks

It sounds like you are getting clipping due to an oversaturated signal (i.e. it's too loud).

With USB devices like this Audacity hands control over to the USB device so Audacity's input slider (volume control) becomes inoperative. From looking at yor device on t'interweb it doesn't look as though it has a gain control - so you have no control over the volume. If this is your probelm, then one poster solved this with a diy homemade volum control placed inline - see Mikeymike's posting partway down this thread http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... ter#p23048.

Or you could send it back and buy a similar USB device that does have a volum control - e.g. the ART USB Phono Plus V2 - see http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp ... =13&id=128.

Just a thought: you have connected little thin black wire that comes out of your tuntable to the thoughtfully provided grounding post on the Citronic USB device, haven't you?
