Hi everyone! I've just started using Audacity to record interviews I'm conducting for my graduate program. I plan on using it for more complicated projects after I get comfortable with the software.
However, I'm having a problem with an interview I just recorded. The histogram shows that audio was recorded (the microphone was working), but now everything under the "File" command is greyed out, as if everything under the 'Generate' and 'Effects' tab. It also won't let me play back the audio of the interview. The recording is stopped, not paused, so I'm at a loss. Is there some command I hit by accident that won't allow me to play, edit, or save a recording?
FYI: I opened up other interviews I've carried out in the past, that I've listened to and edited before so I know they're good, and they all worked fine, so it looks like a problem with the program.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Won't let me save or play a new recording

Can you get Audacity to do anything? Even if the menus are gray, you can access them, right? Audacity is not frozen/crashed?
If you do solve this one, it should probably be the last time you use Audacity 1.2.
Audacity 1.2 is very old and no longer supported,
patched, corrected, or updated. Audacity 1.2 can
be unstable on newer computers.
Download and install the latest Audacity 1.3 from here...
http://audacityteam.org/download/
You can install both audacity 1.2 and Audacity 1.3 on
the same computer, but only use one at a time.
Audacity 1.2 will not open projects made on Audacity 1.3.
If you use MP3 or some of the more modern audio
compression formats, get Lame and FFMpeg software
from the same web site. Do not use older software
or software from other web sites, even though they
may have the same names.
