Conflict??

Post by rburrhead » Tue Sep 11, 2007 3:02 am

I have not used Audacity yet but in my studying of it iI have found something that seems to conflict with winLame. On the FAQ page of AUDACITY it statesthe following:

In the help section:
How do I download and install the LAME MP3 encoder?
Windows
Go to the LAME download page <http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/>.
Under "For Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3.3 on Windows", left-click on the link "libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip" and save the zip folder to anywhere on your computer.
When you have finished downloading the ZIP folder, unzip it and save the file lame_enc.dll that it contains to anywhere on your computer.
The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where lame_enc.dll is saved.

I remembered something I saw in the winLAME site home page so I went there and read what it said.
I copied this Q.:
Q: Can I copy a newer lame_enc.dll into winLAME's folder to update the LAME version?
A: No; winLAME uses a self-made API to LAME (which eases access for winLAME) that is packaged into a DLL called nLAME.dll. This DLL cannot be exchanged with other (renamed) DLLs that contain newer versions of LAME. When a new version is released, check back on this site if an update is available. (on a sidenote, DVDx uses nLAME.dll, too, for encoding the audio track of a movie).

Sense I am new to all this and don't know anything much about either program, Isn't there something wrong here? :?:
I am thankful for any help I get. :)

There's nothing wrong here, this quote proves it:
winLAME uses a self-made API to LAME (which eases access for winLAME) that is packaged into a DLL called nLAME.dll
The winLAME people compile their own version of the LAME encoder whenever they desire. It has nothing to do with Audacity's use of lame_enc.dll

I went to -"libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip and downloaded it, but WinZip could not open it when i tried to unzip it, and another folder appeared which said --"This dll-file was downloaded from --www.dll-files.com-- and then =said I needed to go to "www.dll-files.com/software/ and download ExpressZIP-- . I tried that but the site would not pullup. SO I went to Google and pulled it up there but they want $$$ to do that. Do you know of a free unzipper i can get to open the "libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip" files??
I think i am just over my head trying to do what i am trying to do but I have no choice but to try.
I have this Brand NEW TTUSB Turntable (sense last March) and I really need to know how to use AUDACITY to get my LP Records recorder on to CDs.
SO THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!  :?:

Here is a direct link to the dll. I recommend just saving it in your Audacity/Plug-ins folder.

VST is a plugin standard. Audacity has only very minimal support for VST plugins. I don't recommend using them unless you test each one rigorously first. Some VST plugins crash audacity.

I wouldn't worry about VST or the VST enabler unless you really really want to.
