new to audacity

Down loaded a free version of 656. i have the input and output ajustments, the following box should let me change my choice of inputs, that box is blank. it is recording off of the built in mike on the laptop. why do i not have a choice of inputs.thanks james

What is "656"?

The recommended version of Audacity is 1.3.13 and it is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
Audacity is free, open source software - there is no "commercial" (none free) version of Audacity.
