Error message.
Hi All,
I just recorded an album from my iPod. I "Save project as", checked to see if it all was being recorded (it was), "Save project", then I did some minor tinkering (getting rid of a strange bass frequency /cutting some dead time etc.), added a label track, chose "Export multiple" (I do this with everything), Chose format/location etc., filled in the details (Artist/Year etc.), pressed the button to Export....and the message "Unable to open target for writing" appeared. Why and what do I do to resolve this?
Cheers, Dave.

Re: Error message.
Hi Gale,
That didn't work, I'm afraid. I got rid of any wording that may have caused a problem (inc. all puntuation) to no avail. In desperation, I changed all the labels to numbers (1,2,3 etc.). Still no go. Help.
Dave.

Re: Error message.
Sometimes Audacity 1.2 just got tangled when you hit that error. I would suggest (if you have not already) File > Save Project (which will save your labels) then exit Audacity and re-open the project from File > Recent Files.Dave Bryant wrote:I Export to "iTunes Music". If it still fails, then you could click in each label in turn, drag carefully to the next label, then File > Export Selection as separate files. At least that should get you out of the hole. If it doesn't, upgrade to 1.3.13 Beta for your particular version of Windows and open the project in 1.3.13. You will be warned that you can open the project in 1.3.13 but that if you save it in 1.3.13 you will not be able to open it again in 1.2.

Re: Error message.
Hi Gale, I did as you suggested & exported as separate files (17 of them!). There was 1hr. 14mins. of music. Could that have been the problem? I'm undecided as to wether or not to upgrade as I'm kind of used to 1.2 and I'm sure, if I do, I'll lose everything I've already done somehow!Gale Andrews wrote:Sometimes Audacity 1.2 just got tangled when you hit that error. Thanks for your help, Dave.
Re: Error message.
I would recommend upgrading, or at least trying it. Audacity 1.3.13 is a lot more capable than 1.2.6 and I'm sure it won't take you long to get used to. Once you've been using it for a while I doubt that you will want to go back to 1.2.6
You can have both versions installed at the same time and launch whichever of them you want (but not both at the same time).
As Gale wrote, Audacity 1.3.13 can open projects saved by 1.2.6, but not the other way round, so if you open a project in 1.3.13 and think that you may want to use it again in Audacity 1.2, save the project with a different name ("File menu > Save Project As...")
