How to separate two different vocalists singing at once

Post by Marx25 » Fri Jun 10, 2011 3:27 pm

Hi, I was wondering if there is any way to separate two different vocalists that are singing at the smaw time in the same song? I'm pretty new to audacity, and so far all I've figured out is how to remove the vocals and change the pitch. What I'm trying to do is isolate the vocals, separate the two different vocalists, change the pitch of one of the vocalists, and put it all back together as an edited song. Is is even possible?

The way they do that in recording studios is that they have one vocalist record onto one track and the other vocalist recorded onto a different track. They can then do anything they like to one voice without affecting the other. If you have a stereo track with one voice entirely on the right and the other voice entirely on the left, then it is possible to spit the stereo track into two mono tracks and process them independently (just like the studio method). If the two voices are mixed together on the same track and both are singing at the same time, then anything that you do to one voice will be done to the other and you cannot separate them.
