Some of these tools don't work by painful spectral analysis. Some work by knowing the stereo direction of the instrument. If the trumpets are half-right behind the conductor when you're enjoying the orchestral performance, some software packages can sense that and isolate the performance from the rest of the orchestra. Pitch of tones has nothing to do with it.

Of course, the trombones right behind them will come, too, and by definition, the show has to be in crystal clear stereo. No compression or other processing damage, and no mono.

Separating trumpets and trombones would be a job. Both can hit the same notes and they sound very similar.
