q1: how do I get rid of the shadow around the waveform in the display? looks in the prefs and didn't see anything that would change this
q2: is there a way to see the bit depth as well as the sample rate of a project in the lower bar?
- later edit: I see that each track has a bit depth but I'm assuming the project doesn't have a global bit depth...?
q3: why doesn't audacity read and write 24 bit aif files?
thanks in advance

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

We think that is an actual programming error. It mostly affects Macs. We hope a lot of these errors vanish in the new version 1.4.

Both numbers are there on the left-hand panel.

There is no shadow. Can you look at Audacity on a different computer?

OK..also when I open a 24 bit file Audacity converts it to 32 bit floatkozikowski wrote:<<<q3: why doesn't audacity read and write 24 bit aif files?>>>

right but it seems the Project Rate is indicated on the lower left hand side of the panel barq2: is there a way to see the bit depth as well as the sample rate of a project in the lower bar?

isn't there also a Project Resolution? 8bit, 16bit, 24bit etc?
there are two different shades to the waveform in Audacity - this is called 'shadowing' in Peak and can be turned off<<<q1: how do I get rid of the shadow around the waveform in the display? >>>

is there a way to turn this effect 'OFF' in Audacity?
also, does the lighter shade indicate the RMS of the waveform?
Re: 3 questions
There is a "default recording resolution" bit depth that you set up in Preferences, but Audacity does not really care what bit depths are used on individual tracks - it will handle tracks with different bit depths at the same time. Internally Audacity works at 32 bit (float) regardless of the bit depth of individual tracks.anechoic wrote:right but it seems the Project Rate is indicated on the lower left hand side of the panel bar
