@Steve: do the Nyquist tools you wrote for this deal with the FR - or is there a further FR we can distil from this?

No. The Nyquist tools assist with the specific job described here, but do not address the main thrust of the FR which is for a visual aid to assist with "reading" the amplitude level. There are two proposed methods: 1) A "grid" on the waveform, 2) a ""horizontal guide line" from the cursor position to the vertical ruler. I think the more important thing is to implement "a method" rather than "a specific method".
