I am using the cassette to cd kit on my Windows XP Audacity 1.2 and ... this requires audio splitters. I just recently purchased this program and have gone through three sets of splitters. The most recent problem may or may not be caused by the splitters:
Lately, when I begin to record to Audacity from a cassette, when I click the red "ON" button, the needle on the wave sound window just sticks at the beginning with a red line kind of jiggling like it wants to get started but can't. It happened a few days ago and I placed in new splitters (Belkon), things were o.k. but just now it happened again. I am not using it that much -- still experimenting. But ... I am hoping this might be caused by something simpler than having to buy an unending supply of splitters. Thanks for any input!:geek:

For a start, upgrade to that latest Audacity 1.3.13 - you can get it from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
This set of tutorials from the 1.3 manual should help you: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... iscs_to_CD

Re: record on and needle sticks
I really like Audacity 1.2.
1.3 isn't as convenient to navigate, and all reports are that it isn't complete and still needs a lot of work. 1.2 has a neat look to it and I feel comfortable with it.
I can't understand why you give it away instead of turning a profit on this problematic but interesting and fun software.
But back to the splitters: I removed the cassette to cd 1.2 Audacity and downloaded 1.2 from your site ... problem solved.
Also downloaded Brian Davies' ClickRepair. Thanks for the tip!

Re: record on and needle sticks
1.3 is actually now a very mature Beta and the developers are getting pretty close to a release candidate (RC) for 2.0 - actually no new development work is taking place on 1.3 (nor will it) and all the effort is focussed on fixing a couple of tricky bugs that are currently stopping the 1/3s being a RC.
I've always found it easier to work with than 1.2 and from 1.3.9 onwards it has been my standard production system - 1.3.13 is probably the best Audacity yet. 1.3 has a lot more useful features tha 1.2: labelling and crash-recovery, in particular, are much improved in 1.3. The documention (manual) for 1.3 is far superior to the 1.2 stuff. 1.2 is no longer updated or properly supported - it is now very out of date.
Glad you got the kit working again.

That's just a matter of familiarity. After a week of using Audacity 1.3.13 you'll be wondering why some of the features in 1.2 were hidden away in such inconvenient places.skyscraper wrote:I really like Audacity 1.2.

Audacity 1.3.13 is complete in features (a lot more "complete" than 1.2.x which I find is frequently missing features that I need to use). The developers are smoothing off any remaining rough edges before releasing 1.3 as the new Audacity 2.0.
