Stops recording

Post by tmartinson » Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:59 am

I am using Audacity for the first time. When I start recording, everything will be fine for anywhere from 4 to 22 seconds. At that point my turntable keeps going but the recording stops. My computer is a Dell (about 4 years old) with a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio sound card. I followed the instructions for making sure my drivers were current. Any suggestions to help a rookie user out?

Something as silly as your hard drives are filling up? How much room do you have on the drive you chose to capture your music to?

<<<I have over 6 hours of record time showing.>>>

So that's not it.

OK, split the system in the middle. Can you force Audacity to record from something other than the turntable? Send Audacity to the computer's microphone input or the high-level audio input and plug your iPod into it and play a tune. Press record. It doesn't matter if it distorts the sound or even if it doesn't record much of anything. If it tries to record over 20 seconds and succeeds, then you know your attention should be on the turntable.
