When BT replaced my lines they found that some of their lines had water seepage in them - so they swapped mine for a good dry one (bet some other poor sucker will get the wet one, I certainly didn't see them take it permanently out of service ...)

Re: Sharing Audacity files online
I'm also with Virgin - 2Meg download speed, 200k upload speed (10%)
These are the maximum (capped) speeds with my broadband account. I find it adequate.
File sharing sites are often very slow due to their high traffic and limited bandwidth. I can always achieve full speed to my own web space, but using (free) file sharing sites the speed can drop to pathetic levels (slower than my old telephone modem).
Most(many?) broadband accounts provide some free web space. Upload and download speed to that web space should be reasonably good, but it is very common for upload speeds to be capped at around 10% of download speed.

Anybody fancy a comparisons test ?
I'm with BT Broadband, Option 3 ( top doggie ), and my d/load can hit 7.5 Mb/sec from an advertised 8 Mb/sec. However, my upload is crap. I'm getting 5.5 Kb/sec trying to upload to here;

Re: Sharing Audacity files online
I just got 32.5 KB/sec and managed to upload a 44Mb file without the server going to sleep. Overall, it's quite depressing. I hadn't realised that sharing Audacity files online was going to prove so difficult. I could fly to Australia, and back, in the time it takes to upload an album's-worth.

And even the good old British Post Office could even manage to deliver a CD/DVD with the files on in that time - maybe ....
