so you mean I can use that mono adapter to my mic in input, run those two cables to my MD through that mono/stereo adapter again. and I don't need external sound card?

Yes you could do that, but you would be limited to recording a mono signal. This is probably not what you want. There is no way to get around the fact that your Mic In input is mono. If you want stereo, you need a new input.
