I am really really new, and ummm help?

Whats up guys, im really new to this and i cant really find the answers to a couple of really dumb questions. Ok, so i downloaded audacity and it seems like it will work. I need to get a desktop mic but when i do get it can i record "live" with it. As in i plug the mic into my comp and i play my bass, will it record it? Also, it seems like the plug ins are like additional features....so like if i DO record something can i add distortion to a clean bass line, or add drums to it? Sorry if these are dumb questions but i need all the help i can get here. Thanks for your time.

I think your best strategy might be to just get stuck in and see what you can do with it. Check out some of the Tips and Tutorials (see links at top of the page or directly below this post).

Audacity 1.3 includes quite a few effects as standard, so have a go with those first and see what they all do. If you get stuck, Audacity includes a full manual in the Help menu. Later on, if you find that there's other effects that you need that are not included in Audacity you can start looking at other plug-ins.

Can you describe your computer? The microphone recommendations change depending on what kind of computer you have.
