1.3 Beta and Windows 7

Post by DanielleL » Fri Apr 01, 2011 12:03 am

Just to let you know, when you export files from Audacity 1.3.12-Beta (Unicode) to Windows 7 as WAV form, the 1.3 program asks you to enter artist name, song name, etc. The only things that actually make it to the Windows media reader are the song title and its length. Everything else disappears, and the Windows media reader treats it all as unknown artist etc. As this version of Audacity is specifically mentionned as experimental, I thought you'd appreciate the data. I don't know much about programming, so can't suggest any solutions.

Metadata on WAV files is quite limited...

Read this recent post from Gale on the subject: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 16&t=53578
Include as much details as you can in your post (Audacity version, Operating System, Equipment used, etc).
Please post your question in the appropriate forum (regarding audacity version and operating system).

BTW, there's a bit of a difference between "beta" and "experimental". Audacity 1.3.12 is not really that experimental... Actually it's getting close to the next stable release and it's the recommended version for most systems. On Windows 7 it's far more stable than the old and no longer in development 1.2.x series. If any releases can be tagged as experimental that would be the "alpha" releases. All that just to say that you should not be afraid of using 1.3.12-beta, despite the "beta" tag name. Actually you should feel strongly encouraged to use it!

Audacity 1.3.13-beta should be out pretty soon and then that will probably be the recommended version. The development of the 1.3.x branch has been in feature freeze for a while, that means that the developers are focusing on fixing the current bugs for the release of the upcoming 2.0 stable release. Feature freeze means that no "experimental" stuff will be added before the release of 2.0 and every 1.3.x release will be more stable than the previous and upgrading is recommended.
