Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Input Level Selector--?

Post by KatieB » Mon Mar 28, 2011 8:20 pm

Hi,
I am very new to Audacity and just installed it. I have an Audio-Technica USB turntable plugged into the USB port of a 27" iMac running OS X 10.6.6. When I play and record an album, the waveforms are barely more than a flat line and, not surprisingly, the sound is not very loud. I have the input level selector (the bar next to the microphone to the left of "Default Input Source", correct?) pegged all the way to the right (+). I have no choice but to have "Default Input Source" selected as it is the only selection available. If I look at "Sound Input" in System Preferences for USB Audio CODEC it says "The selected device has no input controls".

What am I doing wrong/missing here? Is there a manual for OS X Snow Leopard set-up? Any help would be very much appreciated!

Modern Macs do not support Audacity 1.2. 1.2 is very old now and is no longer updated, patched or corrected and it can have significant problems with Intel Macs like yours.

Download and use Audacity 1.3.12 from here...

http://audacityteam.org/download/

It's called "Beta" software, but in many cases, it's the only version that works.

You can install both versions safely, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.
