Quick Question concerning track length

Post by mdubin » Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:37 pm

Hi:

When I import an audio track into audacity (either MP3 or WAV), how can I tell what the entire length of the track is before I do any editing?

I have been using Audacity for almost two weeks and could never figure this out. No where is the total time displayed.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Are you using Audacity 1.3.12 (look in "Help menu > About Audacity")
If you are, press Ctrl+F to zoom out to the Full project, then look on the time line above the track.
Alternatively select the entire track (double click on it) and look in the time boxes near the bottom of the Audacity window.

Steve:

I recently downloaded the most recent Audacity 1.3.12 (beta). I use Audacity solely for editing on a single MP3 or WAV file. I click on Import and load the MP3 or WAV file into audacity. The L and R graphs appear on the top part of the screen. I can see the time line above to prove that the entire file was loaded in. But I do not see the exact total length of the file in hours minutes seconds anywhere.

When I click in the area to the left it shows zeroes in the time boxes for the time start and time end. Only when I click on the selection tool above and then click the mouse somewhere in the track itself does the start and end time change below. No where can I see the total duration of the file I loaded in.

I do not believe that I ever double-clicked, though. I'll try it when I get home and see what happens.

Thanks,

Alternatively you can single click on the track, then press the END key to take the track playback cursor to the end of the track. The time position will be displayed at the bottom of the Audacity window.
Alternatively, click on the >> button.

Steve:

Thanks for the information. Double clicking brought up the entire track as a selection and I was able to see the total time.
