Hi:
The Tascam US-100 usb interface is designed for stereo recording, but...
I've connected stereo rca jacks from my stereo sytsem's line out to the rca inputs of the Teac-100 usb audio interface and select "line in" on the unit. I hear stereo from the interface's headphone jack, and the Audacity recorder on my computer will record just fine, but only in mono.
In Audacity (3.1.12 Beta) under EDIT/PREFERENCES/DEVICES/RECORDING "Microphone (3-usb-audio codec)" is the only working recording choice, and it has only a "mono" selection. I have the INTERFACE as "Windows Direct Sound". I also chose the same usb mic as my input device by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the bottom right side of my computer screen. I have Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Satellite A205 S5000 laptop computer.
Any ideas? Thanks!

It sounds to me as if you need to install a driver. With the interface being seen as a mic, it's probably running with the computer's guess at a generic driver. With the driver properly installed, you should be able to see options named something related to the brand and model of your interface.

Windows Vista (and Win 7) will often set USB audio devices as mono, presumably on the assumption that it is a microphone.
Right-click over the speaker icon in the System Tray and select "Recording Devices"
Right click on the USB recording device and select "Properties".
I'm not on a Windows machine at the moment, but somewhere in there you can select the recording settings and they should be set to "44100 Hz CD quality stereo".
After setting that, when you restart Audacity you should be able to select 2 channel stereo in Audacity.

It worked! Steve, I tried your trick before I posted, but I must have missed something. I tried it again and got stereo mic in Audacity now. Thanks to both of you for the replies.
